People who know me like to throw out terms to describe me such as: "hirsute, impressionable, irrationally defensive, gum smacker, kitten comber, bombastically reticent," etc. So to say I was overwhelmed by what I saw this weekend may be a bit of an overstatement (and no it wasn't Meryl Streep's commanding performance in "It's Complicated" -- because I saw that two weekends ago) as I am and have been a believer in the power and draw of comics on the Web.
So suffice to say when Bill Amend asked me to be his guest at the first-ever PAX East, I jumped at the chance. Which was unfortunate, as I was on the lip of a volcano at the time ... j/k. I'm fine.
I'll get in to more detail here as the week progresses, but wow. It was awesome. I heard estimates of 50,000- 60,000 people. Sold-out. Video games, comics, music ... laughter, one beer (just one I swear) and three days later, color me impressed. And if you are coloring me, can you make me a little tanner?
The out-of-focus photo above is the line (which could not be photographed appropriately) from Bill's early Saturday morning talk. There had to 800+ (?) people in the hall and they went overcapacity, so I don't think everyone got in. Anyway, Bill delighted the crowd with his comics, math and gaming talk and most importantly, he got me in so I didn't have to wait in the line which regrettably did not endear me to a guy in a solid green heat-to-toe spandex costume.
More later.
