The Sandbox

GWOT hot wash, straight from the wire

Welcome to The Sandbox, a forum for service members who have served or are currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, returned vets, spouses and caregivers. The Sandbox's focus is not on policy and partisanship (go to our Blowback page for that), but on the unclassified details of deployment -- the everyday, the extraordinary, the wonderful, the messed-up, the absurd. All correspondence is read, and as much as possible is posted, lightly edited. If you know someone who is deployed who might have something to say, please tell them about us. J.R. AND JOSIE SALZMAN UPDATE
Name: SANDBOX DUTY OFFICER David Stanford
Posting date: 11/30/07

Longtime readers of The Sandbox will remember COPING, a post by world champion logroller J.R. Salzman, written from Walter Reed Army Medical Center shortly after he was wounded in Iraq, and his wife Josie's subsequent post about PTSD. Here's "Coming Home", a recent ESPN profile which provides a welcome update on their situation:

Thanks for posting this story. I am amazed at the things the human spirit can endure. J.R. Salzman should be an inspiration to anyone for his courage, conviction and coping in situations that would make anyone want to shrink into nothingness. Bravo!!! Salzman!!!

Very good story. Thanks for posting this video David. I would really like to meet J.R. one day. Hopefully at a milblog conference or something one day I will be able to meet him.

Thanks for the update... I am so glad to hear that J.R. is still healing and has no regrets... The spirit is strong...
