PreTeena signs off May 18th

PreTeena

Allison Barrows brings PreTeena to a close this Sunday. With kids growing up and a job offer on the table that was "too good to pass up," the creator has decided that now is the time to end the strip, which has been syndicated by Universal Press since 2001. Read the official announcement here.

This week's strips have featured Teena's recollection of a dream in which the bright future of each member of her supporting cast was revealed.

The PreTeena archives will continue to be available exclusively on GoComics.com.

My daughter karen is going to miss Preteena like mad. All the strips were fun reading for them. No more new strips would drive the kids crazy.

Boy, there were a lot of people who really, really loved this strip. Just glancing at the numbers of comments on Daily Cartoonist stories about it could tell you that. I'm sorry it's ending. Congratulations on a fine run, Allison!

You have to realize that you captured the hearts and minds of girl scouts all over the globe and most of us feel deserted. May I suggest that you put the strip up for sale to someone who can continue the content and spirit?
Sincerely,
All of us at Troop 465

I'll miss Preteena. It used to be carried in the Detroit Free Press and I rediscovered it again in GoComics. The strip was local when my own boys were in middle school and very much appreciated at the time. Seeing Preteena move on and out of our lives is like a nice family on the block moving away. It's a bittersweet loss, we wish them the very best but we will miss them very much.

Noooooo... I can't believe it! I thought you were going on vacation, not retiring the complete comic strip. I will miss Preteena! Sniff, bye Keene family! Sniff.

Preteena was one of my highlights of reading the comics. It was a good comic strip with good content. Too bad it is gone, especially with all of the bad comics out there. Allison, consider doing it part time. We would all appreciate it. Yet, good luck also.

As a father of two young girls I never missed one day of reading Preteena! To me it was fun and at the same time educational on what might be my future (like Hugh) with the two girls. I will, like so many others, miss Preteena. Good luck to Allison Barrows on her new venture.

I love the comic but am rather upset with how it was ended.
No goodbye to the fans or anything. Quite honestly, it was us fans who made the comic famous. There should of been at least a goodbye. She ended it like she didn't even care it was being ended.

I Loved this strip and read it every day!

So sad to see it end. :-(

Come back to us Allison!

I agree with Rama. No goodbyes? I read it everyday and just loved how it so closely related to my life with my kids. When everyday was the same cartoon, I assumed the worst; searching the internet for obituaries about Allison. I was puzzled as to what had happened. I have searched for another cartoon to replace it and nothing comes close. Sorry to see you go Allison, but a goodbye to your fans would have been nice.

To all of you, I'm humbled. Your kind words leave me choked up -again - at what I was deeply reluctant to do. Rama and Laurel, I ended the strip without a "goodbye" to fans because it's not over yet: traditional newspaper syndication is at an end (we all know the future of print: RIP), but I'm currently working on a series of graphic novels with a new publisher. PreTeena went to ComicCon a little over a week ago and was enthusiastically received by major book stores who are excited about stocking and promoting PreTeena in its new form.

I "ended" the strip without ending it: I always imagined Teena and Gordo together, but now we have a little window into their future. The books will give me an opportunity to "grow" them.

Please keep your eyes open: You'll be hearing from and seeing Teena, Stick, Jeri, Johnson, Gordo, Goose and the rest soon!

With gratitude,
Allison
