Seeing as how this video has almost one million views, I'm guessing some of you have seen it already. I hadn't until yesterday, and was left blown away yet again by the sheer schmaltziness of Microsoft's production values. To quote Dan from the tech blog Gizmodo:
Microsoft's Songsmith software, which creates Casiotone-style beats to match whatever off-key warbling is optimistically sung into a mic, finally has an ad as corny and annoying as the software itself promises to be.
A couple of my favorite moments...
2.47: The guy shuts the laptop (still covered in little butterfly stickers) with a self-satisfied "nice."
3:15: This cut shot of the competing sales guy's face is pretty incredible. In addition to having to watch his own pitch for glow-in-the-dark towels trumped by Songsmith, it looks like he hasn't slept in days.
But the fun doesn't end there. A quick search on YouTube revealed that dozens of people have been posting the greatest pop hits of the last few decades remixed by Songsmith.
Roxanne -- The Police
Creep -- Radiohead
Toxic -- Britney Spears
Wonderwall -- Oasis
If any of you have Songsmith and feel compelled to share, feel free. Happy weekending.
